I just did a shoot tonight inside the World War II aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. But in eight years of living in New York, I never visited the museum. What a trip. But tonight was a totally different type of visit. I setup a mini-portrait studio inside the hull of the ship. Below is a portrait of my friend Thibault, who I worked with tonight, and an interior shot from inside the belly of the beast. Also, below are some amazing images from the top-level deck of the aircraft carrier shot by my friend Leonard Fong. To learn more about the Intrepid Museum, click HERE.

STUDIO

I want to get one of these “THINK SAFETY” banners for my studio. After this last week of shoots, my studio is a war zone. Keeping organized is important but I know it’s gonna get wrecked starting Monday.

Yesterday was awesome; actually, this whole week has been amazing. First, Alexis and Derek of Sleigh Bells came by my studio for a shoot for Nylon. They were rad and had good music which always get things moving. Can’t wait until their record comes out. Some polaroids below.
Then, my good friend Louis Abelman came over to have dinner and we did some portraits. He works at The New York Times and is a documentary filmmaker. We had fried chicken again. This is going to be on the jacket of his first novel. Anyway, the images came out nice and were Interview Magazine / Irving Penn inspired.

Wool and the Gang

Thursday evening, Wool and the Gang opened a new shop / studio on Thompson St. between Prince and Spring here in New York. I shot the space during their opening for Coolhunting. My friend Kenyan Lewis of BYKENYAN was there to view his newly installed sign hanging outside. He also installed a wooden ladder and created stools for the shop. You can read about the store and the company HERE.

The CMJ Music Marathon descends upon New York once again. Last night, Glasser and Cold Cave played incredible sets at the Stereogum / Believer Party at the Webster Hall Studio. The evening started with Glasser, accompanied by Tanlines who will be performing throughout the week. If you missed it, check out the video of Glasser performing “Apply” which is posted below. I’d like to big-up Jesse for the great show and for listing me. Also, I’d like to quickly mention that Cold Cave is %$#*!@ amazing.
This year’s festivities had an epic start with the debut show by my good friends Restless People followed by a late night set by Washed Out at Santos. More photos and videos to come. Shouts to Tony Blankets for the auxiliary position which I shall try and make the most out of this week and Electric E for playing darts.

Olympus XA

I got an Olympus XA at an estate sale upstate for 2 dollars. I just got the 35mm scans back yesterday. These are test images from around my apartment and my studio shot with the XA.

Sammy Bananas

Sammy came by the studio the other day for a portrait. He’s a DJ and is going to be in San Diego tonight and Los Angeles this weekend. We ended up with some decent images. I’m not even finished working on them. Later, Mari, Louis, and Chipwich came by to say hi.

Today, I drove upstate to Richard Prince’s studio. Just outside of Albany, he has multiple workspaces and living spaces on a farm. The drive up there was nice despite the heavy rain. And the clouds cleared for a few hours when the shoot started.

Today I swept and mopped the floor of my apartment / studio for the last time. I’ve been moving out since the beginning of April and it’s finally come to an end. I lived at 36 South 4th St. for 6 years. Some good and some bad. I did a lot here. Shoots, parties, food, music, roof, balcony sessions, etc. When Kit and I took the last of the photo gear out of here, I started to realize that I needed to come back and shoot it for the last time. I haven’t lived in one space for this long since I was a kid, and it was weird leaving it. I never get to use the 10 sec. timer but here are the photos:
