I just did a shoot tonight inside the World War II aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. But in eight years of living in New York, I never visited the museum. What a trip. But tonight was a totally different type of visit. I setup a mini-portrait studio inside the hull of the ship. Below is a portrait of my friend Thibault, who I worked with tonight, and an interior shot from inside the belly of the beast. Also, below are some amazing images from the top-level deck of the aircraft carrier shot by my friend Leonard Fong. To learn more about the Intrepid Museum, click HERE.

Thanksgiving 2009

Joel hosted Thanksgiving this year at his loft in Williamsburg. The meal was epic, and the desserts put me down.

On Sunday, I have to admit, I got marathon fever. This November 1, 2009 was the 40th running of the New York City Marathon. I was literally in pajamas as I watched these athletes getting closer and closer to my house on T.V. So I put on some clothes and grabbed my camera bag, and ran to the corner of Bedford and Grand St where volunteers hand out water cups to the runners. I got a coffee, and only waited a few minutes before the leaders in the mens’ race were coming toward me, including Meb Keflizighi, this year’s NYC marathon winner (photographed below). Their arrival was only forecasted by Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Bloomberg riding in a classic car (also, photographed below). I watched thousands of participats run and wheel up Bedford Avenue. Two things I want to know: how you run from Staten Island to Williamsburg in 54.42 minutes and is there a better alternative to green paper cups. I want to congratulate everyone who ran this year including my buddy Justin Tejada who finished the race; it was memorable to watch.

This is a building I’ve photographed a lot over the years, but never like this. On Friday night, Tanlines and Yeasayer performed at the Guggenheim Museum for the It Came From Brooklyn Concert Series. Having press access to the space really helped out in terms of getting to where I needed to be. The stage was situated at the foot of the rotunda in the lobby, surrounded by the Kandinsky exhibition. Both performances were out of this world, and the ambient light only lent itself to my color treatment on these images. I’d like to thank Jesse from Tanlines for the press pass and invitation, and the Guggenheim staff for being so accomodating. I’m really proud of Eric and Jesse from Tanlines; they played great and on a very special stage. Also, big ups to Ira from Yeasayer, who also put on a great performance.

The CMJ Music Marathon descends upon New York once again. Last night, Glasser and Cold Cave played incredible sets at the Stereogum / Believer Party at the Webster Hall Studio. The evening started with Glasser, accompanied by Tanlines who will be performing throughout the week. If you missed it, check out the video of Glasser performing “Apply” which is posted below. I’d like to big-up Jesse for the great show and for listing me. Also, I’d like to quickly mention that Cold Cave is %$#*!@ amazing.
This year’s festivities had an epic start with the debut show by my good friends Restless People followed by a late night set by Washed Out at Santos. More photos and videos to come. Shouts to Tony Blankets for the auxiliary position which I shall try and make the most out of this week and Electric E for playing darts.
